Balancing Heat Illness Protections and COVID-19
August 7, 2020, 10:00 AM PDT (11:00 AM MDT)

Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year and even more heat-related illnesses. Employers must now protect workers from both COVID-19 and heat illness as the National Weather Service has issued extreme heat warnings in numerous states over the past several months.

In this webinar, we will discuss California’s heat illness prevention standard, which applies to all outdoor workers. While there is no corresponding federal standard for heat stress or heat illness prevention, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigates and cites incidents of worker heat illness under the general duty clause of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. This webinar will also address the appropriate steps employers need to take to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while protecting employees from heat.

COVID-19 Regulatory Updates and Best Practices
August 21, 2020, 10:00 AM PDT (11:00 AM MDT)

On July 15, 2020, Virginia became the first state to issue mandatory COVID-19 workplace safety rules. The Virginia emergency temporary standard will be the first to go beyond OSHA’s non-mandatory guidance and establish minimum virus protection requirements. Look for other states to follow suit. Currently, OSHA has issued temporary enforcement guidance and indicated it will rely on the OSH Act’s general duty clause which requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards.

This webinar will address COVID-19 regulatory updates, guidance and best practices from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other state, federal and local agencies.
